The word fado' comes from the latin word fatum', meaning fate' or destiny'. it is a type of popular song from lisbon. some say that the fado was born aboard the caravels at the time of the great discoveries'… the fado is an invocation to destiny and at the same time a historic chronicle, telling us about the people who gave it its soul. with Amália Rodriguez, Herminia and Maria Tereza de Noronha, Lucilia Do Carmo was one of the four great fadistas. it would not be going too far to say that, without her, the fado would not have been as rich as it is.
