The marimba is not exclusively a Mexican instrument; you can find it everywhere in Central America, particularly in Guatemala, where it has been the national instrument for centuries. This album presents two ensembles, both of which explore the various facets of the marimba.
Similar to the xylophone, the marimba is made of 20-137 strips. Three or four musicians share the keyboard, hitting it with soft-headed drum sticks of various weights to produce an astonishing array of sounds!
