Swiss folk music bears the mark of various cultures which have developed by adopting or imitating tunes and instruments from neighboring countries, with subsequent modifications. Traditional instruments include idiophones (jew's harp, the shaking of cowbells, the swishing of a coin in an earthenware basin), percussion (various types of drums), string instruments (zither, dulcimer, cittern) and wind instruments (horn, harmonica, accordion, whistle).
