"The voices of (Boca Livre) rise and fall together...
colorful, exhilarating, evocative and substantial."
- Los Angeles Times

Welcome Brazil's premier vocal quartet Boca Livre and their stirring American recording debut Dancando Pelas Sombras (Dancing in the Shadows). In the rich tradition of the Brazilian popular music movement of the 1970s, Boca Livre effortlessly apply their sophisticated harmonies to compositions by Milton Nascimento, Lo Borges and Jards Macale; to songs by Americans Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays; and to their own compositions. Together for over a decade, Boca Livre (Ze Renato, Mauricio Maestro, Lourenco Baeta and Fernando Gama) have released eight albums as well as racking up credits for their stunning four-part vocals on recordings with Brazilian superstars such as Milton Nascimento, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Edu Lobo an Toninho Horta. Most recently, Boca Livre performed their composition "Danca do Ouro" on Jon Anderson's (Yes) CD "Deseo." Since 1979, when Boca Livre's first recording sold over 150,000 copies in Brazil alone, the group has charmed listeners around the world. American music critics have compared Boca Livre to groups like the Manhattan Transfer, Bobby McFerrin, Take Six, and even Crosby, Stills, and Nash when describing their crystalline vocals and intricate harmonies.

While each member of Boca Livre has a rich musical background and solo career, their combined compositional and arranging skills are what make the group so strong and so unique. Whether singing a cappella or self-accompanied on guitar, bass and percussion, Boca Livre deliver haunting new readings of popular material.
