Country or Region: CUBA
Catalog No: CO-123
In 1940, a Cuban cane-cutter, with five musical sons and only two guitars, created bongos, bass and maracas from canambu bamboo canes. A legendary band called Canambu was born. The band is still fronted by one of the sons, Aristides Ruiz Boza, whose incredible soaring voice has not, at the age of 63, abandoned him.
Canambu cane grows in enormous, sometimes three meter high forests in eastern Cuba and is totally unlike the delicate cana brava around Havana or the cana that is crushed into sugar.
Notes in Spanish. 11 songs.
