Cheika Rabia has been perpetuating a heartfelt musical genre endangered in its original land: the trab, whose poetical verve has been remembered orally. With a backdrop of reed flute and percussion, her moving voice sounds laments about thwarted love, escape from solitude, moral and sexual distress, and the tragic fate of women betrayed by their emotions.
