Guillermo de la Roca and the Musica Criolla ensemble. The traditions of the former Incaic zone of the Andes are alive and well: the rituals have survived their transformation, and music, while incorporating other influences, has retained its Indian originality. The Quechuas and mainly the Aymaras have not given up their collective ritual dances and they remain very attached to the kena, better known as the Andes flute. On some of these recordings, the organ —formerly used in the Guarani missions for religious music but also for training in harmony— reminds us of the specific influence of the Church in the countries of the Cordillera (Peru, Equador, Bolivia, Venezuela).
