Innovative composers Pande Made Sukerta, Otok Bima Sidarta, I Wayan Sadra and B.Subono from the Central Javanese cities of Surakarta and Yogyakarta, use the Javanese gamelan and other traditional Indonesian instruments to explore new musical ideas and textures.

Like the highly acclaimed Asmat Dream: New Music Indonesia Volume I (LYRCD-7415), which was also commissioned and recorded by Jody Diamond and Larry Polansky, Mana 689 presents compelling, fascinating and powerful new works by some of Indonesia's major experimental composers and expands our perception of the world of new music.
