Played with two wooden/rubber beaters, the West African gyil, antecedent to the marimaba can be played alone, or in ensemble with a second gyil and/or drummers, singers, and dancers. Its unique sound punctuates all aspects of Lobi and Dagara life. Ghanas Kakraba Lobi is considered the gyils greatest spokesperson by virtue of being one of the only living virtuosi to have mastered the instruments vast and difficult repertoire, and to have gained international acclaim as a concert soloist. Here he is joined by two of his greatest champions, noted world percussionist Valerie Naranjo (The Saturday Night Live Band, The Lion King on Broadway) and jazz and world great, Barry Olsen (played or recorded with Tito Puente, Ray Barretto, Airto Moreira, Paul Simon, Marc Anthony, and others). "Song of Legaa" is spectacular celebration of traditional gyil playing at its masterful best! Produced by Randy Crafton.
