Their music builds a sort of miraculous bridge between two worlds: François Kokelaere, with his pebbles, his gourds, his berimbau, his sanza and his water drums dialogues with Paul Lazar and his open violin, his virtuosity, energy and sheer emotion. François is to Paul what African contemplation is to European quest, what Buddhist kharma is to Christian tragedy. The pieces recorded here evoke musical styles ranging from Caribbean beguine to Arabian nights.
Note: the CD booklet features a remarkable presentation text by Nancy Huston.
