Los Masis was created in 1968 by a student group whose aim was to maintain the independent music of Bolivia. In the first years of its existence, Los Masis gained praise and awards in its own country, and by 1975 the group initiated a series of tours outside Bolivia, constituting itself as a true ambassador of its culture. To date the group has recorded eighteen CDs of ethnic and pop music, and continues to put emphasis on the rescue of Andean cultural values, and of Bolivian music.
