Most of the pieces presented here are either Waynos, the lively, swaying dances of the Andes, or Yaravies, the sad, slow epic songs composed by the poets of the Court. The latter are played at funerals or to commemorate natural disasters, common in the harsh Andean world. Many of the tunes have expressive Quechua or Incan titles.
