The T'Boli are an indigenous community living in Mindanao, a large island of the Philippines archipelago. Fingguy Flang and Luming Tuan play the 'hegelung', a thin, wooden lute with a lean and gracious sound bow prolonged by a long and slender neck, the emblematic instrument of the T'Boli culture. When they were in their teens, these exceptional musicians were approached in their dreams by a prettily adorned supernatural deity, the hegelung Custodian, who offered them her friendship. She regularly intervenes in their dreams and encourages them to persevere and to inspire them, sometimes teaching them new compositions. This CD presents a selection of dances and love songs transcribed for the hegelung lute. An important new release from an important country.
