Item Number: ACM-43
Catalog No: ACM-43
South African musician Pops Mohammed is well-schooled in both the traditional essence of African music and modern grooves, both of which he skillfully melds on HEALING SOUNDS OF AFRICA. The music here is well seeped in mellow jazz sounds (saxophone, trumpet), and light, chilled rythms that give the music a relaxed, cool vibe. Of course, it's the colors of Africa that certainly account for a large portion of the album, with the sunny strumming of the kora and the twinkly tones of the mbira lending their characteristic sounds to the mix. Further shaping the album's core ambiance are the sounds of the didgeridoo, birimbau and vocals, which range from ecstatic cries to humming to chant. It's a fun, modern twist on classic African music that balances soul with sophistication.
