Five DVDs illustrate 44 music and dance performances of South Asia.
Volumes 1-3 from India include classical dances, dance-drama, folk dance and songs, drum dance, masked dance, Hindu and Sikh devotional songs, plucked zither and lute solos, puppet plays, illustrated narration of Pabuji's heroic deeds and Baul songs.
Vol 4 features Pakistani Qawwali, Sufi devotional songs, trance rituals of shamen, lyric song on solo tutek (flute) tarwar (sword dance), along with Bangladesh woman's dance, mountain folk dance and a dance-drama.
Vol 5 includes dance rituals, ceremonies, hunting songs and ensembles from Sri Lanka, also Nepal's Gaine songs and ensembles, a drum solo, devotional songs, lamaist ritual music, and a masked dance drama from Nepal as well as Bhutan. A 120-page book completes the set with descriptions, maps, glossaries and essays on this region.
