Thapelo Khomo's musical expertise crosses many
boundaries - his recording resume includes soundtrack work,
multi-cultural fusion adventures, a host of awards and an audience with
the Dalai Lama. With DRUMMERS FROM MOTHER AFRICA, Khomo explores a more
traditional sound, focusing on the invigorating and absorbing sound of
African percussive music. Each piece layers a variety of indigenous
drums (congos, bongos, djembe) with shakers, tambourines, mbira,
whistles and bass. Despite being comprised almost entirely of percussion
and rhythm instruments, the music often does have a tropical type of
melody to it. Wordless vocals contribute to the rhythms on a few tracks,
as do ambient African wildlife sounds. This is one of those albums
whose natural pulse will instantly fill you with energy and an urge to
move in synce with the rhythm.
Drumming is the
essence of sacred ritual. Pulsating patterns and vibrations, the drums
create
a kaleidoscope of sound textures that invites everyone to participate
in its infectious rhythms.
Experience the rhythmic beating of African drums! A host of
accomplished drummers, marimba
players, and percussionists dish up an original banquet of magical
rhythms. Tune into the most
instinctual beat there is, each one telling a unique and powerful
story of Mother Africa.
