The Music of the Tatra Mountains is the first release from a series of recordings that were made in Zacopane in 1994. The purpose of the series is to showcase a fascinating and somewhat neglected European musical tradition. The music from the Tatra mountains developed over centuries of isolation. Due to the difficulty of traveling through the mountains, Tatran Highlanders evolved a culture that has grown in a different direction that that of their lowland neighbors. In the same fashion that Appalachian music is a product of English and Scottish traditions, the music of the Tatras is a unique blend of Polish and Russian traditions.
