Item Number: BUDA-7816
Country or Region: URUGUAY
Catalog No: BUDA-7816
A companion piece to the previously released Tambores del Candombe, which presented the poly-rhythm of Afro-Uruguayan candombe in its most traditional form. This new album highlights the music of the Cuareim-style drums in their present diversity, featuring original compositions that reveal the close relationship between tradition and creation. A heritage of slavery times, the candombe is first and foremost the music of the African-Uruguayan community. This album includes “vocal” candombes in which musicians imitate the drums with their voices, some of the most famous candombes-canción<  arranged here for vocals and drums, and a few llamadas (“calls”) in the purest traditional style. The musicians, representative of Montevideo’s Barrio Sur tradition, are all members of the comparsa C 1080, led by Cachila.

Wellington Silvia Barrios: drums, vocals
Waldemar “Cachila” Silva Rivera: drums, vocals
Matias Silva Barrios: drums, vocals
Guillermo Diaz Silva: drums, vocals.
